The Rockin’ DK Ranch is located on 2,000 acres in the West Texas town of Mertzon and is a family operation with over 50 years of combined experience. We were raised to value and respect the land. It’s in our blood. We strive to offer high quality wildlife, excellent meals, clean comfortable lodging and an experienced staff.

If you are looking for a high quality hunting experience, look no further than the Rockin’ DK Ranch!

To ensure a quality experience for our guests, we take a limited number of hunters each year. We require a 50% deposit to reserve your hunt, with the balance due 10 days prior to the beginning of your hunt. Deposits are non refundable unless the client can find a replacement hunter. Hunters are responsible for their own tags/license.

Axis Hunts

Guided hunts start at $5,000.00 for a 3 night 4 day hunt. This is a 1 on 1 guided hunt. Lodging and meals are included.

Native to the Indian subcontinent | Known as the Chital or Spotted Deer
With their rich reddish-brown coat, permanent white spots, and long, sweeping antlers, Axis deer are among the most striking trophy animals you'll find in Texas. Native to South Asia, Axis were introduced to Texas in the 1930s and have since become one of the state's most recognized exotic game species.
But don't let their beauty fool you, Axis can make for an exciting and challenging hunt. They are highly social animals that often travel in herds, which means there can be a lot of eyes and ears watching for danger. Mature bucks are impressive animals, with distinctive three-tined antlers that commonly sweep upward and outward.
Unlike native whitetail, Axis don't follow one synchronized annual rut. Bucks can be found in different stages of the antler and breeding cycle throughout the year, although breeding activity in Texas generally peaks during the summer months.

Addax Hunts

Native to the Sahara Desert of North Africa | Known for its distinctive spiral horns
The Addax is one of the most distinctive and unusual African antelope species, instantly recognizable by its pale coat, striking facial markings, and long, beautifully twisted horns. Native to the harsh deserts of North Africa, the Addax is remarkably adapted to extreme conditions, with broad hooves designed for traveling across soft sand and the ability to obtain most of the moisture it needs from the plants it eats.
For hunters, the Addax offers the opportunity to pursue a truly unique trophy. Both males and females grow impressive spiral horns, with mature animals carrying the unmistakable look of a species built to survive some of the most unforgiving terrain in the world.
The Addax also has a remarkable conservation story. Once widespread across northern Africa, it is now critically endangered in its native range. Scimitar Oryx Hunts

Native to North Africa | Named for its long, sweeping, saber-like horns
The Scimitar-Horned Oryx is an impressive African antelope with a look that is unmistakable in the field. Its bright white coat, reddish-brown neck and dramatic horns, found on both males and female, make a mature oryx a striking trophy. Those long, curved horns resemble a scimitar sword, giving the species its name.
Originally ranging across the Sahara and Sahel regions of North Africa, these animals were built for harsh desert country. Their broad hooves help them travel over sand, and they are remarkably adapted to extreme heat and limited water. Adults can weigh more than 400 pounds, making the Scimitar Oryx a substantial animal as well as an impressive trophy.
For hunters, the combination of size, striking appearance and extraordinary horn length makes the Scimitar Oryx an exciting pursuit. They are herd animals with keen awareness of their surroundings, adding another element of challenge when trying to get within range of a mature trophy.
The Scimitar-Horned Oryx also has an incredible conservation story. After disappearing from the wild, captive populations helped preserve the species and provided animals for reintroduction into its native African range. Those efforts have been so successful that the species was reclassified from Extinct in the Wild to Endangered in 2023, and today more than 600 are again living in the wild.

Black Buck Hunts

Native to India and Pakistan | Known for its striking coloration and distinctive spiral horns
The Blackbuck is one of the most recognizable exotic antelope species in Texas. Native to the grasslands and open country of the Indian subcontinent, these graceful animals are known for their speed, sharp eyesight, and alert nature, traits that can make pursuing a mature trophy an exciting challenge.
Mature males are especially impressive. As a buck ages, his coat typically darkens from brown to a rich chocolate or nearly black color, creating a dramatic contrast with the bright white markings around his eyes, belly, and legs. The real showstopper, though, is his set of long, ringed horns that twist upward in a tight corkscrew pattern.
Blackbuck are social herd animals and rely heavily on their excellent eyesight to detect danger. They're also remarkably fast and have both the speed and endurance to cover open country quickly. Fallow Hunts

Guided hunts start at $6,000.00 for a 3 night 4 day hunt. This is a 1 on 1 guided hunt. Lodging and meals are included.
Few deer make a statement quite like a mature Fallow buck. Native to parts of southern Europe and the Mediterranean region, Fallow deer have been introduced around the world and have become a popular exotic species in Texas.
What truly sets the Fallow apart is its impressive antlers. Mature bucks develop broad, palmated antlers, wide and flattened rather than the branching antlers seen on whitetail or Axis deer. A heavy, mature set of palms creates a trophy with an unmistakable look and plenty of character.
Fallow deer are also known for their remarkable variety of coat colors. They can range from the classic spotted fawn coloration to nearly black, creamy white, and other variations, making each animal visually unique.

Impala Hunts

Native to Eastern and Southern Africa | Known for speed, agility and elegant lyre-shaped horns
Graceful, athletic and unmistakably African, the Impala is one of the iconic antelope of the African savanna. Native to eastern and southern Africa, Impala are built for speed and survival, living in herds and remaining constantly alert to their surroundings.
Mature rams are especially striking, with a sleek reddish-brown coat, distinctive black and white markings, and long, ridged horns that sweep outward and upward in a beautiful lyre shape. Unlike antlers, these horns are permanent and continue to give an older, mature ram an impressive profile.
What makes the Impala particularly exciting is its athleticism. These animals are exceptionally quick and agile, capable of making dramatic leaps to escape danger, including jumps of roughly 10 feet high and more than 30 feet in distance. Combine that ability with the awareness of a herd, and getting into position on a mature ram can make for an exciting hunt.

Sable Hunts

Native to Eastern and Southern Africa | Known for its dramatic coloring and magnificent sweeping horns
The Sable is one of Africa’s most striking antelope and an unmistakable trophy in the field. Native to the savannas and woodlands of eastern and southern Africa, Sable are powerful, heavily built animals with a commanding presence. Mature bulls can weigh around 500 pounds, making them an impressive combination of size, strength, and beauty.
As a bull matures, his coat darkens to a rich brown or nearly black, creating a dramatic contrast against the crisp white markings on his face and underparts. But the Sable’s signature feature is its horns. Both males and females carry horns, but mature bulls develop exceptionally long, heavily ridged horns that sweep backward in a graceful curve and can reach more than five feet in exceptional animals.
Sable are alert, territorial, and formidable animals. Mature bulls use their impressive horns when competing for dominance, and their strength and confident nature have helped give the species its reputation as one of Africa’s most impressive antelope. For a hunter, locating and getting into position on the right mature bull makes the experience especially rewarding.

Wildebeest Hunts

Native to Southern and Eastern Africa | Known for its rugged appearance, heavy horns and unmistakable African character
The Blue Wildebeest is one of the most iconic animals of the African plains. Native to the grasslands and savannas of southern and eastern Africa, wildebeest are powerful, heavily built antelope with broad shoulders, a shaggy mane and beard, and distinctive curved horns. Mature animals can weigh several hundred pounds, giving them an impressive presence in the field.
Also known as the gnu, the Blue Wildebeest gets its name from the silvery-blue sheen of its dark gray coat. Both males and females carry horns that extend outward before curving upward and inward, while mature bulls develop heavier horn bases and a particularly rugged appearance.
Wildebeest are naturally social herd animals and are famous for being constantly on the move. In their native Africa, enormous herds travel across the savanna in search of fresh grazing and water as part of one of the world's great wildlife migrations. Their alert nature, herd instincts, and ability to cover ground make pursuing the right mature bull an exciting hunting experience.
